Cream Pies and Batman
Nancy Lennartsson, who still works in Meyer as part of our Cataloging team, has some interesting memories of Meyer in the early '80s.
I remember when the light well was not glass enclosed, the cream pies being tossed from 4th floor on the very day some important people were touring the building with the head librarian (Liz Salter, I think was her name). Also remember many bats flying around, and how the 'batman' would trap them with his long pole that had a toilet plunger attached to the end.
The head librarian at the time was indeed Elizabeth (Liz) Salzer. Since 1985, Liz has been University Librarian at Santa Clara University, where we hope she is less exposed to flying pies and wayward bats! Liz is still an active member of The Associates of Stanford University Libraries.
