Memories from Mary Sevilla
Former staff member Mary Sevilla has contributed many memories of the early days of Meyer. Unfortunately, many of her memories will not be recreated at the party on December 1st. These include:
Stanford undergrads getting in early on the flash mob trend:
The night students brought bags on cans in and dumped them on the stairs on the fourth floor where they clattered down to the second floor. Then they gathered up the cans and quietly left.
Meyer staff very strong on customer service:
One night a "streaker" ran through the first floor lobby. The streaker waved to the Portal Monitor and the shocked Monitor waved in return.
Fashions of the day:
The day one of our librarians came to work in her mini skirt and boots. Wow! We were so impressed.
And of course:
The Stanford Band marching through the doors from the "bridge" (It was open in those days), students lined the stair well on all levels and cheered as the band played on.
While circumstances prevent us from having The Leland Stanford Junior University Marching Band, we will have plenty of other musical performaces, including Mariachi Cardenal de Stanford! Please join us at the party on December 1st.
